morning light

the perfect light. the perfect connection. my favorite boise location, the perfect morning. i am always flattered when other photographers ask me to take their photographs. bridget said this was her brithday gift to herself and then i got nervous. because who wants to be a disappointment on someone's birthday? luckily these 5 made things easy on me. all images shot on my contax 645 with the film fuji 400h.

good-bye utah blow out sales!!!

there's been a bit of a whisper on the wind, blips on twitter and facebook if you pay attention to that kind of thing-- but if you haven't heard the news yet, let's make it all official-ish right here, right now:

yan photography is moving to denver, colorado!

people kept seeming surprised, and when they asked with that, "what the?" sort of look on their face about why we are moving. i gave them the ultimately boring answer that we are pursuing a master's degree in recording arts for martin.

but what i really want  to tell them is that we are chasing dreams. because three years ago we were not in this place. three years ago we were square pegs trying to fit into round holes. we were doing our best to make responsible and practical choices regarding martin's career, which incidentally happened to exclude the applications of any of martin actual talents. five years ago, i was watching the soul of the person i loved most in the world die a little bit each day. and i wasn't surviving it well.

so now here we go! off in a direction that make our hearts soar! off to realize the goal good old uncle marty set for himself almost two years ago and has been working toward and sacrificing for ever since (i am so, so proud of him).

is moving good for business?

meh, not so much.

do we have a place to live?

well, not quite yet.

am i scared ---- just plain, unsalted, raw emotion scared?

that would be a heck yes.

but its the right thing to do, i know it is.

and in all of this, there is good news for all of you:

we are having some serious good-bye utah blow out sales.

first, simple sessions in the studio. what once was $300, now is $200.

i know, i think i must be crazy, but people, this is your gosh darn last chance and mine too. i'd like to cram y'all in if i possibly can. don't even get me started on my heart break in saying good-bye to my white walled solace. if you have been putting off booking a session with me in the studio, do not wait any longer,

bright

can i tell you why i love to do simple sessions one more time? why i so much want you and your family to come and spend a half hour or so in the studio with me? for me the simplified location (white, white, white, one room, lots of light) really allows me to focus on how your family connects, how your family is together, without distractions. how you tickle--how you make each other laugh, how you move, the subtle way you position yourself in a room. and nothing distracts from that. marty and i created the kind of place that would foster memory making in the most natural way possible outside of your home. the goal, the hope is  to capture all the sorts of organic moments that you really will want to remember always. so we try and try, and its not always easy, because things never go "perfect." but that's really what makes things perfect in the end, isn't it? p.s.  at the end of this session i wanted to make this family my new best friends. bri is an awesome mama, photographer and blogger here. too bad they moved to st. louis for the summer. i'm so lucky they got a simple session in first.

hey hey hey, good news on the simple session front! as these types of sessions are new, and as i really want to get the word out and about, i've decided to offer a fancy promotion. if you've followed me for awhile, you'll know i don't do this sort of thing very often, so hopefully i'll get this right. its pretty simple (oh how appropriate). basically--

you want to sign up but you kind of want a deal one the whole thing? perfect. all you have to do is:

1. like yan photography on facebook here

-then

2. get a friend to also sign up for simple sessions and

you will each get $100 off your simple session (ie $200 each)

3. blog and/or facebook about the simple session. it could go down any number of ways, such as, "i can't believe i'm going to do a simple session with yan photography, i've waited my whole life for this (insert link back to this here blog)!" or "a simple session with yan photography (link) is better than christmas, my birthday, and disneyland combined!" you get the idea, wink.

4. there is no four. that's it. contact me with the subject "put me in coach!" if you are ready to roll.

but what if, um,  heaven forbid you haven't been reading along  for a few months and you have no clue what a simple session even is? click here to behold the wonders of a yan simple session. see the pictures in this post, for yet another example, and take a looksy at this lovely family, if you are still not sold.
